CLMS…………….History and Activities:

Incorporated in 1981
Joined United Mobile Sportfishermen in 1986
Worked to maintain ORV access in the Park since 1981
Performed annual beach cleanups on North Core Banks since 1981
Helped remove approximately 600 abandoned vehicles from island with help of USMC, Morris Marina, and private contractors that donated help and equipment
Lobbied Local, State and Federal government agencies, and worked with NPS to get channel dredged to island at least three times
Sent delegates from CLMS to meet with Secretary of the Interior (with UMS)
Performed many work projects on the island; trash can holders, picnic tables, sign placement, dune vegetation projects, dune fencing projects, and storm damage repairs
Don Morris Gazebo constructed and memorial plaque – gazebo destroyed by storm – plaque to be replaced
Hold three fishing tournaments a year
Hold six board meetings and two general membership meetings yearly
Constructed picnic tables for concessionaire during annual meeting weekend
Put up sand fence under park service directive
Issue 4-5 newsletters to the membership yearly
For 10 years now we have held a Take-A-Kid fishing weekend with children from the Oxford Home
Donation - $1000.00 donation for 9/11 (Red Cross-$1000.00 Lowe’s match)
Donation - $1000.00 donation to Hurricane Isabel victims
Donation - $2000.00 donation to Down East School children at Christmas time that were Isabel victims (two $1000 donations-2003 and 2004)
Donation - $6000.00 to Atlantic School PTO ($1000 yearly for the last six years)
Donation - $7500.00 to OBPA for law suit against USF&W (for piping plover wintering habitat case – lawsuit won)
Donation – Down East Cal Ripkin Little League (uniforms)
Donation – Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter
Donation – UMS Legal fund.
Donation – UMS Bob and Agnes Smith Scholarship fund.
Donation – Katie Morris Memorial Fund
Cooked meals for the Disaster Teams that were working the area after Storm Isabel
Collected food and clothing for Storm Isabel victims
Constructed fence on mainland for Morris Marina (unfortunately taken down by a storm)
Attend many meetings with NPS
Attend and participate in many public hearings about any proposed changes in the Park management plans
Attend 3-4 UMS meetings yearly (2 delegates sent by CLMS) to keep informed of access problems all along the coast
Stay in touch with local, state and federal representatives about items that affect ORV access and fishing regulations
